I’m not one to toot my horn. Anyone who knows me knows that. At a recent family gathering, my Aunt Cyndy pointed out my talent for taking self-deprecation to a whole new level when I referred to a personal success as a “freak accident.” She may be right. But sometimes, even the most modest of us have to give ourselves a pat on the back. And I’m really proud of these 4 little minutes of fame on a recent ABC News spot.
It all came about through a dear friend, journalist and fellow travel writer Karen Schaler, author of Travel Therapy: Where Do You Need to Go? She gave my name to a producer at ABC News Now in New York and next thing I know, we were off and running on a three-day sprint to develop a script, secure a shoot location and coordinate a field crew (not to mention a beauty binge of hair highlights, spray tan and nail appointments).
Of course it wasn’t all me. On the day of the shoot, three very sleepy-eyed spa girls and one spa boy were at my side at the crack of dawn to act as extras and cheerleaders (watch for them in the background). A very gracious and helpful staff at Golden Door – namely, spa director Jennifer Wayland-Smith – got there before the crack of dawn to prepare for us. One extremely patient field producer kept me calm and on script (his famous words: “Great job! Now let’s do it again!”) while a talented cameraman and sound guy backed him up.
Like they say, it takes a village. So I hope you’ll enjoy this virtual walk through the exquisite Golden Door Spa at The Boulders Resort in Carefree, Arizona. No compliments, please! My head is big enough already (and my butt – good gravy – when did it get that ginormous? Welcome to my world!). Watch the ABC News Now Spa Segment.
