A reviving DIY honey hair mask.
You can't get any easier than this home spa treatment for dry, dull hair. This honey hair mask revives lackluster tresses with just two ingredients – deeply hydrating olive oil and shine boosting honey.
This easy-to-make hair conditioning treatment is courtesy of the National Honey Board.
Here's what you need:
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/4 cup olive oil (use 2 tablespoons for normal hair)
Here's what you do:
Mix honey and olive oil in a small bowl. If you'd like, warm up the treatment in microwave for 10 seconds or so. Work a small amount at a time through hair, starting at the scalp and working through to the until hair is coated. As an option, work an extra handful of olive oil into the ends. Pop on a plastic shower cap and leave the mask on for at least 30 minutes. Remove shower cap well, rinse, shampoo and follow with a light conditioner. Dry as normal.

Amber says
can you use this on colored hair?
Spa Girl says
Yep, totally safe for colored hair!
Katie says
How much olive oil for oily hair?
Spa Girl says
Keep the same amount but just use less. Focus on the ends rather than the roots of hair.
Hannah says
Can you use cooking oil ?
Spa Girl says
Hi Hannah, typical cooking oil or vegetable oil is made primarily from soybeans, which can be a bit heavy and doesn’t smell that great. Safflower oil is a bit lighter and may be a good option. Worth experimenting but try a little at a time so you don’t end with greasy hair.

I LOVE this! I added 1/2 cup of coconut oil, too. I noticed that my hair felt softer immediately! Thanks!

I was looking for something or someone that combined honey, olive oil and even added coconut oil in and I did. So glad I found this article. Wasn’t sure on measurements or anything. Thanks for posting this. I am definitely trying this.

I read that this can help your hair grow faster too. Will this help?
Lisa Kasanicky says
Can’t say whether it helps grow faster but massaging the scalp is said to help stimulate hair growth.

I used this treatment works great but suggestion I would give is if you balayage style hair dye do not add to your roots your hair will look greasy I tried just a little and it was bad so leave off the roots for balayage. Thanks great shinning recipe
