Ward off tension headaches with pure peppermint oil.
Next time you’re anywhere near a Whole Foods, Sprouts or health food store, grab yourself a bottle of peppermint oil. On second thought, grab two so you can stash one at the office and the other at home. Oh, and maybe not grab them so much as gingerly pluck them off the shelf, give them to the cashier and pay for them.
The ultimate natural “headicure,” pure peppermint essential oil does wonders to ward off stress headaches. You know the ones … those headaches that start off as a minor annoyance and then slowly creep their way to red alert status. By using this preventative method, you can usually nip them in the bud. The cooling effect of the peppermint oil helps to relax the muscles and the scent works to revive the circulation. Plus, by first going the aromatherapy route before popping pills, you’ll be taking a mini spa time-out, and you know how much that can do to stop stress in its tracks!
Here’s what you need:
- One bottle of 100% pure peppermint essential oil
Here’s what you do:
At the first inkling of an impending headache, pour three drops of peppermint oil in the palm of your hand. Rub your palms together and holding your hands to your nose, take three deep inhales and exhales. Next, pour one drop on your fingertips and rub the oil into your temples and forehead.
As with any essential oils applied directly to the skin, always first dab one drop on the inside of your arm to make sure it does not irritate your skin. If it does, dilute the oil with water.

Great advice. However, I was always told that ALWAYS diluted essential oils with a carrier oil (coconut, almond, olive, jojoba, etc.) instead of water.

Essential oils can be a great way to relieve your migraine pain. My girl friend uses oils to help with her migraines. Peppermint and Lavender are very effective. http://www.allnaturalmigraineremedy.com has many oils and other natural products she uses to help. Hope it helps someone!
