A home spa remedy to heat up the body and purge toxins.
You know that icky feeling you get when your lifestyle choices haven’t been … well, shall we say, stellar? A week laden in late nights at the office, fast food and one too many Cosmopolitans (mmm, Cosmos…) calls for a good sweat. Sweat out bad choices with a warm detox bath, which helps draw out mucky, yucky stored toxins and get you back on track on to health. Epsom salt, which really is magnesium sulfate, helps replenish the body’s magnesium levels while the sulfates flush toxins. The baking soda gently cleanses and softens skin. The fresh ginger will help to heat up the body.
Here’s what you need:
- 2 cups Epsom salts
- 1 cup baking soda
- 2 tablespoons fresh grated ginger
- Body brush or loofah
Here’s what you do:
First, secure the grated ginger in cheesecloth or a coffee filter so that it doesn’t clog your bathtub drain. Then, once you’ve gathered all your ingredients, fill your tub with warm water and dump the ingredients under the running water. While the tub fills up, run the brush gently all over your body from the neck down to whisk away lingering dead skin cells. Then, recline in the tub, rest a towel under your neck, close your eyes and relax for at least 20 minutes. Follow up your bath by applying a light body moisturizer and drinking plenty of water to rehydrate and flush the toxins.
