A touch of vanilla gives this gentle coconut oil body scrub a delicious scent.
I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that you’ve heard about the hair and skin benefits of coconut oil by now. If not, you can read this Huffington Post interview with celebrity nutritionist and early champion of the ingredient, Kimberly Snyder. In a nutshell, she says that coconut oil provides “deep and real moisture” to skin and hair by strengthening tissues. When applying it directly to your skin, she suggests using organic extra virgin coconut oil, which has not been hydrogenated, bleached, refined or deodorized.
So let’s get cracking! This easy concoction gently exfoliates skin and allows the coconut oil to replenish skin’s natural moisture. Plus, the touch of vanilla makes this body scrub smell good enough to eat (and, well, it is!).
Here’s what you need:
- 1/2 cup coconut oil
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Here’s what you do:
In a small sauce pan, melt the coconut oil over low heat until it becomes a liquid. Let the oil cool and then pour it over the brown sugar. Add the vanilla extract and mix. In the shower, massage over your entire body. Store the rest in a container with a tight-sealing lid. The vanilla extract acts as a preservative and will keep it good for up to two weeks.
