Melissa Hurst is the founder of Saving Cents with Sense, an online deals and couponing site that helps families and budgetistas find quality products, hot deals, store savings and money saving tips. This married mom of three understands the importance of stretching a budget to maximize savings – but that doesn’t mean she sacrifices her “me” time!
Here’s how Melissa stays looking flawless without breaking the bank.
Okay, Melissa. What will we find in your beauty bag?
It is no surprise that I’m always looking for ways to save, so I love finding deals at the drugstores on quality products. Some of my favorites include Neutrogena Healthy Defense Daily Moisturizer SPF 30 because with fair skin, SPF is much needed! I use Olay Regenerist Deep Hydration Regenerating Cream at night before bed to help fight wrinkles while I sleep. For makeup, I use Ulta Minerals Medium 03, as well as their Finishing Powder for a flawless finale. The store brand is less expensive, and works as well as other higher end brands. Maybelline Volum’ Express Mascara is one of my favorites because it opens up my eyes.
My splurges on beauty are Origins GinZing eye cream to help brighten tired eyes (important for this working mom!). I also love Origins Once Upon a Shine lip gloss to quickly add sparkle and color to my lips. My favorite colors include sheer bronze (summer) and sheer passion (fall).
What are you longing to add to your cosmetic bag?
I love trying new things so I don’t have anything on a “want” list, but I’m willing to try anything. I’m known for mixing color lipsticks and glosses to get the exact color I want. I can get lost looking through new colors, products and brands.
How can Spa Girls save money on their beauty routine without sacrificing quality?
CVS, Walgreens, and Ulta really have a great selection of products that often go on sale and they take coupons to help you save even more. My first stop is usually the drugstores, but if they don’t carry a certain salon brand, then I head to Ulta. Ulta is a fun place to look for new products and they send out coupons when you join their mailing list to help you save on your finds! You can also shop online for some of your favorite products at a discount. Some good places to shop include drugstore.com, amazon.com and vitacost.com. Look for coupon codes to save. Be willing to try to items that are on sale or clearance. You never know when you’ll find a new favorite. And, finally, save where you can so you can spend where you want! We all need splurges every now and again!
Speaking of splurges, what’s your favorite spa treat?
Believe it or not, the spa at Nordstrom is very relaxing (especially after a day shopping at the mall) and I recently had their Grapefruit Ice Pedicure – it was so refreshing for tired feet! And when I really feel like splurging, I head to Alvadora Spa at Royal Palms for one of their Signature Citrus Treatments. I absolutely LOVE their signature lotion.
