Three-time Emmy Award-winning journalist Catherine Anaya is a mother, marathon runner, motivational speaker and CBS-5 News Anchor in Phoenix. Is there anything she doesn’t do? Probably not. In fact, she even took the time to give us Spa Girls some insight into her beauty bag. Thanks, Catherine!
Okay, Catherine. What’s in your beauty bag?
Ha! It’s not a bag – it’s a box! I call it my “tool box” because that’s exactly what it looks like. I like to keep all of my daily essentials in one place so that I know exactly where to find everything, and can tote it to work and then slip it in the bathroom shelf when I get home.
My must-haves start with DermaBlend Cover Crème. I have a terrible case of hyper pigmentation and this product is one of the best I’ve found for covering it. I follow up with Zethina foundation and powder. She’s a Valley makeup artist with her own line of cosmetics. I alternate between her eyeshadows and MAC eyeshadows. My favorites right now are Club & Embark by MAC. I also use MAC lip and eyeliners. My favorite is the Macroviolet Fluidline because it doesn’t smear and the color is great for making green eyes pop. And, I don’t go on air without MAC’s lip glass in Lovechild.
My staple though, is the MAC #7 lashes. I started wearing them when I was anchoring in Los Angeles and I don’t go on air without them. I wasn’t born with long, thick eyelashes, so these give me that look and they just pop on air! I also just discovered the MAC Prep & Prime transparent finishing powder. I LOVE it because it evens everything out and is a nice finishing touch before I go on camera!
What are you longing to add to your beauty bag?
I’d love to add La Mer moisturizer to my cosmetic bag! It’s the cream all the celebs and Hollywood makeup artists tend to rave about. But it’s so ridiculously expensive that I can only dream about how my face would look and feel if I used that every day.
What is your favorite place to buy goodies for your beauty bag?
I’m a MAC junkie. I just love their products, colors and of course lashes! I’m lucky because Zethina’s husband works with me here at the station so I just email her when I’m low on a product and she sends it with him. But you can order from her at Zethina.com. I especially like her foundation and powder because they give a nice even look without feeling or looking cakey.
What is your favorite spa splurge?
MASSAGE! I would like to win the lottery JUST so I can get a massage every day. Honestly, it’s been at least two years since I had one at a spa. I’m a marathon runner so when I get a massage it’s not for relaxation – it’s for deep, muscle-stripping “good pain” and I have someone I use who specializes in working on athletes. I think I’m due for a relaxing one though.. followed by a little time in the steam room – ahhh … I’m relaxing just thinking about it!
My essential beauty tip is…
SUNSCREEN! My hyper pigmentation is a result of a combination of pregnancy hormones and years spent as a teenager baking in the sun lathered in baby oil. I’m really paying for that now! And because I have an olive-colored complexion, I’m a ripe target for the sun. I wear an SPF 100 sunscreen every day, even when the sun isn’t out. It’s tough being a runner because I can’t escape it. So the sunscreen is a must, along with a hat and sunglasses. If I’m not running, I really try to stay out of the sun as much as possible.
