In 2000, Misty Hyman earned a gold medal in the Sydney Summer Olympics’ 200-meter butterfly. In 2012, she was inducted into the Arizona Sports Hall of Fame. And today, she’s a swim coach at Scottsdale’s Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain where she leads motivational programs like the Triathlon Prep and offers personal swim instruction to guests. Busy? Yes. Too busy to share her beauty favorites with fellow Spa Girls? Never!
So, Misty – what are some of your beauty must-haves?
I can’t live without Estée Lauder Double Wear Light Stay-In-Place Makeup! I use Intensity 2.0. It has a great, natural finish that stays put through coaching, working out, and even brief swimming, and doesn’t rub off on shoulders or necklines. This makeup takes me from pool deck to TV studio without much more than a touch-up.
I also love Estée Lauder Double Wear Zero Smudge Lengthening Mascara in Black for all the same reasons as above. Merle Norman Brow Sealer in Ash Blonde is a must, too. My brows tend to get bleached in the sun and chlorine, so I use the brow sealer to define them, but also to keep them shaped and in place. Redken Curlwise 14 adds just the right amount of volume and curl definition to my thick, wavy hair. I can just scrunch and go!
And this season I am IN LOVE with my Lancôme ‘ROUGE IN LOVE’ Lipstick. It’s a bright coral color that’s much bolder than my usual neutral pinks and goes with anything. It was a fantastic recommendation that I picked up at a makeup counter in London back in May. I have a rounder face, so I always keep a great powder blush and big brush on hand to highlight my cheekbones and give my face more definition. For summer, I bought MAC Springsheen Sheertone Shimmer Blush. It goes great with my coral lipstick and a tan!
What are you longing to add to your cosmetic bag?
Nothing I haven’t tried yet, but I can recommend something new. Alba, which can be found at places like Whole Foods, has come out with new facial cloths that cleanse, tone and moisturize all in one. They are great for traveling but I found myself using them even when I have a sink, soap and time. They truly are all three products in one.
You’re in the sun and pool a lot. How do you protect your skin and hair?
I try to always wear a hat, a sun shirt (long-sleeved with SPF), and lots of Coppertone Oil-Free SPF 45 Sunscreen. My hair does get very dry so I use Unite 7 Seconds Conditioning Leave-In Detangler, which works wonders for smoothness and softness. For skin, I swear by good old fashioned Palmer’s Cocoa Butter from Walgreens. It is very thick and greasy but when you spend your days outside in the desert and in and out of the pool, you need something heavy! At night I slather my whole body liberally with the stuff and make sure to wear a long sleeved tee and old pajama pants to bed.
What are some of your favorite place to buy goodies for your beauty bag?
I live very close to Paradise Valley Mall, so I can just run into Dilliard’s Makeup Counter and then run over to Merle Norman. It’s quicker than ordering online and also gives me the chance to try things out. Yes, I am usually in a hurry, hence all the running!
What is your favorite spa splurge?
Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain‘s 90-minute Sanctuary Jewel Facial! It can be customized to your specific skin needs. I always make sure mine is extra moisturizing.
